Just across the bridge from Narragansett, Jamestown is quieter and easier to get around than Newport. It sits on Conanicut Island and is known for its shoreline views and slower pace. A good first stop is Beavertail State Park, where you can walk along the rocks, watch waves come in, and check out the lighthouse. It is a popular fishing and sunset spot.
In the center of town, you will find a handful of restaurants, bakeries, and small shops along Narragansett Avenue. Several places have outdoor seating with views of the water. Enjoy a long lunch or an early dinner without the crowds you would commonly see in Narragansett or Newport.
For a beach stop, Mackerel Cove is one of the best options, with calmer water and a small, easy-to-access shoreline. Jamestown also has scenic coastal roads with plenty of pull-offs if you want to stop and take in the view. It is an easy half-day trip when you want to get out and explore without dealing with heavy traffic or packed areas.
